Ways to make money of your website

Generating revenue of website

There are many tips on ways to make money of your website online. Websites are not limited to personal blogs, information websites or e-commerce websites but could be about literally anything. If you are planning to build a website for just online presence purpose (i.e. promoting your business),  then most likely you goal is to gain more clients or customers and careless about promoting third-party products and/or services.

The question remains, how to turn your website to a money generating machine?

Unless you are selling products or services, the only other way to generate revenue of a website is through advertisements. However, before considering the idea of making money of online ads, your website must be getting high traffic, else you are out of luck but it is not the end of the world!

You still can run InfoLinks or Google Adsense on a low traffic website but do not quit your day time job yet. It takes time, dedication, hard work and patience to boost traffic to a website.

If you do not already own a website, you should check should I start my website article first before purchasing domain name and a hosting service package.

There are many webmaster tools that can be utilized to monitor website traffic and provide real-time statistics and analytic information to website owners, Google Analytics is one of those great tools – best of all, it is free. Understanding how your website performs among the millions of websites out there should help you make an informed decision on what advertisement method(s) is more suitable for you.

Before looking into available advertisements networks, you should focus more on the contents of your website. Having unique contents, with time, will bring more traffic to your website.

There are many different advertising methods out there. However, the most common ads programs, especially for new and low traffic sites are:

  • Cost-Per-Click (CPC) – This type of advertising works by displaying ads on designated locations of your website, and when a visitor clicks on one of the displayed ads, your website generates money. Google Adsense and InfoLinks are great examples of advertising networks that use this method. However, there are many other ads networks, that pay a lot more, but sadly, many websites do not meet minimum monthly page-views required to qualify.
  • Affiliate marketing – as the name implies, is an affiliate program that is usually easy to join yet offers generous revenue to you since you are directly working with affiliates. It works by placing a link on your website of specific service your affiliate offers, and when visitors click and sign up for a service, you make as much as 50% of the cost of service your visitors paid. An example of this advertisement method is recommending a gym membership, a magazine subscription or high speed Internet service. However, unless your website contents are related to the service(s) you recommend, most likely you won’t generate any revenue.
  • Fixed fee ads: Considering you have fair amount of traffic to your website, you could offer advertising banners on different locations of your website at a flat fee. For example, $50/a month for the banner, regardless on how many impressions. This method attracts advertisers with a set budget. However, unless you have high traffic, this method is not recommended.

There are other advertising programs but most low traffic websites do not meet the minimum requirements for entry but their return is a lot higher than CPC.

Samsung Galaxy Edge S7

This is probably the wrong time to write about a Samsung phone while their products are catching fire. Despite the fact that Samsung Note 7 early retirement, Samsung Galaxy Edge s7 remains the top Android phone in the market today.

Yes, there were some reported incidents by some owners about their phones catching fire while charging. Personally, I placed a pre-order for this phone when it first came out and never had any issue. However, the device gets hot while charging in fast charging mode. After reading & hearing about the horrible incidents Samsung Note 7 users experienced that necessitated a recall of over two million phones, I turned off the fast charging mode on my Galaxy Edge S7 to be on the safe side.

As for the most recent firmware update, some of my favorite apps started causing phone reboot for some reason. Some friends suggested upgrading to an iPhone but in my opinion I see it as a downgrading. No offense to iPhone owners, it’s just a personal preference.

Yahoo security breach 2016

Today, I got a notification from Lookout Mobile Security app about an announcement made by Yahoo indicating a security breach affecting over one billion Yahoo users. While my first email account I created was with Yahoo, I no longer use their services since Gmail was launched.

That does not mean all other email networks are more secured than Yahoo. It just means, any sensitive and personal data are primary targets for hackers. As long as you’re connected to the world wide web, your digital information are at risk of being hacked – whether the digital information or files are stored locally on your computing device or on a remote server.

According to Lookout Mobile Security, Yahoo! has just announced that after investigation by forensic experts, they believe an unauthorized third party stole data of over one billion Yahoo! user accounts in August 2013. This is the second breach announced by Yahoo! in 2016

Yahoo! has announced a breach of over 1 billion user accounts from August 2013 that is believed to be separate and distinct from the reported 500M Yahoo! breached accounts that Yahoo! disclosed in September earlier this year.

The compromised user information may have included names, email addresses, telephone numbers, dates of birth, hashed passwords, and potentially even encrypted or unencrypted security questions and answers.

The stolen information did not include passwords in clear text, payment card information, or bank account information. Yahoo! has not been able to identify who the third party thief was, but are working on notifying all potentially affected users with steps to secure their accounts immediately.

Next Steps:
Users should change passwords, security questions and answers for any other accounts that used the same or similar information as your Yahoo! account. , Affected users should be wary of any suspicious email activity or requests that seek to gain further personal information. Users should avoid downloading attachments or clicking on links from suspicious email addresses.

JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s and Sears sued over misleading prices

Many people await end of year (holiday) sales, especially when it comes to purchasing high cost items such as appliances and high-end electronics. Most discounts are usually offered in Black Friday & Cyber Monday. However, retailers usually extend sales on many items till the end of December.

How good are sale prices?

Turns out, some deals might not be as good as they look.

The Los Angeles city attorney is suing four major retailers over claims that they deliberately inflated the original price on some items that misled customers into thinking they were getting a better deal.

Customers have the right to be told the truth about the prices they’re paying — and to know if a bargain is really a bargain,” said Mike Feuer, city attorney for Los Angeles, in a release.

Feuer filed lawsuits against JCPenney, Kohl’s, Macy’s and Sears.

The lawsuits allege that the “misleading and deceptive false price advertising scheme” played a major role in the stores’ marketing strategies, and that the companies used false reference prices on “thousands of products.”

For instance, the lawsuit against Sears (SHLD) alleges it advertised a front-load washer with a false original price of $1,179.99, but the retailer never offered the item for more than $999.99 online in the roughly six months after it was first made available online for purchase.

The claim against Macy’s (M) alleges it misleadingly offered a cross pendant necklace at 75% off. The lawsuit claims the necklace was first made available to purchase online in May for $30 with an original price of $120. However, it’s never been priced above $30 in the five months that followed, according the claim.

All four retailers declined to comment on the pending litigation.

California law prohibits retailers from advertising a price of an item unless it’s actually been on the market at that price within the last three months or the date when it was being sold at that price is made clear to shoppers.

Feuer is seeking injunctions to stop the retailers from continuing to advertise false reference prices along with a civil penalty of up to $2,500 for each violation.

The lawsuits claim that inflating the original price of items impacts consumer behavior since it can give a false perception of a sale’s value.

False prices are also an unfair method of competition, according to the lawsuits, since they can hurt competitors who sell the same or similar products with correct list prices.
