One of my favorite hookah lounges in the area is Blue Moon hookah lounge for various reasons. The most important aspects of lounges are cleanness and customer service in which are hard to find in most lounges in the Detroit metro area.
Unlike Lava Lounge, Blue Moon hookah lounge has a great customer service despite the fact employees keep changing frequently with exception to few individuals. For few months now, we have been hanging out at this lounge almost weekly. Obviously, there were times when customer service wasn’t at its best but still better than even Lava Lounge Too. The seats, however, aren’t as comfortable as other places. There are few couches which are usually reserved on Friday and Saturday nights. The hookah itself is decent but Coco Nara coals don’t usually get replaced as much as they should even though there is extra charge for them. That’s one of the reasons I started getting regular coals because of the extensive wait time to get Coco Nara replaced.
Why Blue Moon hookah lounge?
Customers will come for the hookah, but they’ll stay for the experience. Because smoking shisha is a social event, customers will flock to whichever lounge offers the best amenities, customer service and prices. This lounge is very clean and has great customer service. However, if low priced shisha is a major factor, you should consider elsewhere. While the lounge offers wide range of hookah flavors, the prices are on the high end compared to other locations in the area.
The lounge serves food but never experienced it. However, by far, the best smoothies I had were in this lounge. If you plan visiting this place over the weekend, it’s best to make prior reservation especially if it’s a group more than four people. While the parking lot is a very good size, it gets filled fast. It’s better going there early in the night before 9:00 PM if possible.
Overall, this is a recommended hookah lounge to enjoy night out with friends

Qahwah House is the first café in Michigan to serve the finest Yemeni coffee. If you are into medium roasted coffee, then you’ll certainly love this café. Last visit, I tried a medium roast that was prepared right on the counter in front of me. I must say, watching it being prepared alone was such a fascinating experience.
If you like to have something sweet with your coffee, definitely try a piece of Sabayah (also known as Bint Al Sahn). While many people know very little about Yemen, its coffee is one of the best coffee in the world. Unfortunately, coffee farming has been neglected over the past few decades due to various reasons.
The seating, however, are very limited and cannot accommodate large groups like Roasting Plant. Often times, most likely you may not find empty seats during peak times.

A about a month after moving back to Michigan, I was able to reconnect with some close friends. The plan was to meet up once a week for hookah session at one of the local shisha/hookah lounges in the Detroit metro area including The Lava Lounge Too.
Initially, we used to meet up at Lava Lounge (old location) in which I personally was never happy with their service. Thus, we decided to meet up at Lava Lounge Too for a change. While the name of both locations is very similar, not so sure if they are both owned by the same owner.
Why The Lava Lounge Too?
The lounge is one of the new hookah lounges in the area, comfortable seats and most importantly good customer service but not as awesome as Blue Moon lounge. While many of the hookah lounges in Michigan charge an average of $2 extra for Coco Nara coal, it’s worth it in this location due to the frequency of coal replacements which is very important to hookah smokers.
For the past few months, we have been alternating between this location and Blue Moon. I haven’t tried their food but their smoothies are ok. Another thing couldn’t help noticing, lately, many people smoke cigars at this location which annoys some people. If the smell of cigars bother you, try sitting in a booth if available or elsewhere far from cigar smokers.

If you are coffee lover, you are probably looking forward to checking out new cafes like Roasting Plant Coffee, other than commonly known brands.
For the past couple of months, I have been driving by Roasting Plant coffee on the weekly basis on my way to meet up with friends for Hookah night at Blue Moon, Lava Lounge or Lava Lounge Too among other lounges.
It took me that long to visit the Dearborn Heights location because I mostly drove by this Cafe late at night near closing time. Last Thursday, I decided with a friend to skip Hookah night and instead go for a coffee at this location. Surprisingly, the place was really nice inside, plenty of seats, and many coffee flavors. Being there for the first time, it took few minutes to decide on the coffee flavor to try which ended up being Ethiopia Sidamo Guji “medium roast”.
I must say the coffee was on point! I personally loved it and planning on going there again to try other flavors. They also have a drive through window for convenience to those who want to grab a quick fresh cup of coffee on the go.
Why Roasting Plant coffee?
You can choose any of their nine coffee varieties extracted from some of the most remote locations in the world or you can create your own custom blend right on the spot. Ever wonder what two different mix taste like together? Well find out! You can actually choose up to four different single-origin beans in any of their locations and they can brew your personal custom cup of coffee.
As for the pastries, I tried a coffee cake which was very dry and hard. I definitely don’t recommend getting any of their sweets including cheesecake which my friend and was also very dry.

My most recent and horrible car rental experience was with Alamo car rental. After checking in on the airport counter of Alamo for a car that has been previously reserved, I was directed to the pickup location of the vehicle. It was a rainy night. After handing the paperwork to the Alamo employee at the pickup location, the car was brought to me to check it for damage in the middle of a heavy rain and hardly any lighting while the other car rental services have their customers inspect vehicles under canopies.
Over the course of years, I have rented cars from various car rental services including Avis, Enterprise, Hertz, National and E-Z. I never ran into any issue despite the fact that I never used rental coverage offered by these services. For the most part, I had pleasant experiences with vehicles rented via them but not Alamo car rental.
Why should you avoid Alamo car rental?
At the time of dropping off the car, Alamo employee walked straight towards the back of the car and informed me of a dent on the rear bumper as if she knew it was there. She insisted on filing a damage report to further investigate if previous renters damaged the vehicle. Few minutes later, I got a call from Alamo saying there was no reports of damage before and their damage department will contact me. About a week later, I received a letter from Alamo car rental requesting my auto insurance information so a claim can be filed against my auto insurance policy for the repair. The claimed “dent” on the rear bumper wasn’t a damage that can be seen at night and in the middle of a heavy rain.
One mistake I personally made was declining rental insurance coverage. Whether you rent a car through Alamo or other rental companies, you should definitely consider paying for rental insurance to avoid the hassle of filing a claim with your auto insurance. In fact, many auto insurance providers increase premiums when a claim is filed.
I must say, my last month’s experience including visiting Yosemite National Park with a car rented through E-Z car rental was a much better experience.
