Pressure treated wood comparison – Lowes & Home Depot

By | November 3, 2016

Back in 2010, when I built a storage shed, I placed a single order of estimated materials needed to complete the shed building. The order was placed through Lowes and since the cost of materials was over $500, the order was delivered free of charge.

You’re probably wondering why would this article be about pressure treated wood, what’s the difference? Should not all pressure treated wood be the same?. Not really! I’m not wood expert but I was under the impression that all pressure treated wood are the same. You may argue, well, it depends on the type of tree the wood originated from which is a fair argument. Also another factor could be related to the lumber supplier.

Let’s just first say I’m glad that I purchased the pressure treated wood from Lowes and not Home Depot. However, I miscalculated the pressure treated wood needed. Therefore, I had to make a run to Home Depot to purchase additional wood.

Six years later, looking at the photo of the shed door ramp, the pressure treated wood used to build it were a combination of wood purchased from Lowes and Home Depot.

As the famous quote says: A picture is worth a thousand words!

As shown on picture, the bent wood were purchased from Home Depot which certainly need replacement. Do not get me wrong! I shop at Home Depot more than Lowes but will no longer buy any pressure treated wood from Home Depot. I just thought of sharing my personal experience in case you are planning a project requiring such products.
